IBEDC begins asset, customer enumeration in Ibadan

IBADAN Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, has commenced its Asset and Customer Enumeration, ACE, in its distribution network.

The ACE is the proper tracking and data collation of all customers under the network, using a Geographic Information System, GIS, technology to capture asset details and customer information. The company had said that it loses about N4 billion monthly due to meter by passing, illegal connection and other factors.

IBEDC coverage includes: Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara and part of Niger, Ekiti and Kogi states. Speaking during the flag off ceremony of the event at the company’s head office in Ibadan, the Managing Director, Mr. John Donnachie, said,
“The ACE project is a N5 billion project that will span over two years. We need to know our customers, where they live, so we can serve them better. He lamented that,
“Our tariff and our collection issues don’t allow us to make enough revenue. The cost of running this business, including the accumulated cost of fund, is over N70 billion. So, what we are trying to do is to prioritise our key projects.

“We are also calling on the Federal Government to look into the issue of gas pricing. We have to stop charging in dollars for gas. We need to drive local to bring the cost of electricity down.

“We acquired the service of Exernegia-Geotehnics consortium who are charged with the task of carrying out this exercise across the franchise. The pilot exercise will commence in Ibadan to Elebu over the period of three months, June to August 2017.

“The roadshow started on Saturday, June 24, 2017. We plan doing 250 homes in a day. These enumerators will constitute indigenes from the local communities trained efficiently for the exercise, and they will work in conjunction with IBEDC officials who will serve as supervisors and project coordinators for their respective business hubs.”
