Book on Brig Maimalari for public presentation next week

By Joseph Erunke ABUJA – FIFTY-one years after he was killed in the January 1966 coup, Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari, has again, come into public glare as a book on him will be presented to the public next week.

 The book titled:
The First Regular Combatant, Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari, will be unveiled and presented to the public on July 4.

Among the dignitaries expected to grace the occasion billed for the International Conference Centre, Abuja, is former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.
A statement, yesterday, in Abuja, said the ex-Nigerian leader will equally chair the book launch.

The book authored by Haruna Poloma will be launched by Alhaji Aminu Dantata who will be supported by co-launchers that include Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President Dangote Group and Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, President Oriental Energy Resources Limited.
Former  President Olusegun   Obasanjo  and  former Nigeria Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Dan Masanin Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule will be guest speakers at the event.

The book will be reviewed by a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Ike Nwachukwu, a retired Major General. Brigadier Maimalari was the first regular Combatant, in the Officer Corps of the Nigerian Army.

 He attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, United Kingdom. He was murdered on the night of January 15, 1966, during the coup that brought General  Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi  to power. Until his death he was the Commander, Second Brigade, Nigerian Army, Lagos.
