Adhere to professionalism or face stiff penalties, ICSAN boss warns members

IN a bid to promote good and corporate governance, President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria, ICSAN, Prof. Nat Ofo, has tasked the newly inducted members of the institute to adhere strictly to professional ethics or face stiff penalties.

Speaking at the 16th induction ceremony of ICSAN in Lagos, Ofo charged members to see themselves as a link to achieving good governance amid challenging economy, stressing that the cardinal objective of ICSAN is to train chartered secretaries that would adhere to perpetual professionalism in all circumstance.

 He stated:
“Any member caught acting contrary to the ethics of the profession would be dealt with according to the directive of the council. I congratulate inducted members on this mile stone achievement, as well as associates members elevated to the level of fellows in the institute that  have served in one capacity or the order. I will also urge you not to see induction as an arrival to the peak of your profession but as a new   beginning to keep moving forward for remarkable achievement.”

 Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sanni, Group CEO of United Capital Plc, who was a guest speaker at the event, in her paper tagged

“Challenges of Professionalism in a Recessed Economy,”
 stressed the need to remain professional in a challenging economy. Her words:

“Nigeria is indeed in a challenging economy but as a professional secretary, never despise what you have at hand, utilize it and the sky will never be your limit. Moreso, never stop learning, strive to be the best among your equals by being accountable, being self regulated and being competent. Also professional does not compromise standard in a challenged economy.”

Mrs. Nkechi Onyenso , Registrar and Chief Executive of ICSAN stated:

 “You have taken the right decision by one of the 219 inducted members who chose to adhere to the values of the institute because of the economic challenges in Nigeria.   Note that our Institute is as good as how members carry themselves on their jobs. With these in mind, I urge you all to network among yourselves, solving issues that look challenging in each individual work.”
