Dowen College honours Fedora, most outstanding student

Dowen College Lekki, DCL, honoured 16 years old Miss Chimaobi Fedora as its academically distinguished student of the 2017 graduating set.

Her performance was declared to be very outstanding, especially as she won eight awards at the ceremony which took place in Lagos a few days ago.
The awards included: Dr. Abimbola Ogunkelu’s Prize for Participations in External Competition and Contribution to School Life Series of Debate Competitions, Late Mr. Ola Vincent Prize for Best Graduating Students in Government, Hon. Justice Olusola Hunponu – Wusu Prize for Best Graduating student in Literature in English, Very Rev. (Dr.) Yinka Omololu Prize for Best Graduating Student in Christian Religious Studies, Mr. M.A.K Smith Prize for BEST graduating student in Civic Education, Mrs. Tomi Borisdae Prize for Best Graduating student in Garment Making, Excel Prize for the Most Outstanding Graduating student and Chairman’s Award for the Most outstanding Graduating student. In her remarks, at the DCL Valedictory Service and Graduation Ceremony for the Class of the 2017, the School Principal, Mrs. Olawumi Togonu-Bickersteth, charged the graduating students to focus on building a solid future, while urging them to take responsibility in making the world a better place with integrity and applications of the right work ethics.

In her Valedictory speech, the Most Outstanding Graduating Student said that the journey to emerging as the best in her class was challenging, but she was able to pull through with the help of God, her parents, and teachers. She explained that, “One definition of success is the ability to look back upon your life from your deathbed without regrets. You don’t want to live your life wondering what could have been. She also said that the winning of the trophies in different award category was a consolation of the efforts she invested in her studies, stressing that this is the starting point for her and the struggle for success in life never gets easier, rather it requires commitment and determination
